All my 60’s music dreams came true last night at CHRIS + RON’s wedding! 🎧🧚🏼‍♀️ These love birds have been together for 10 years before finally tying the knot yesterday. This music brief for this wedding was to ply a mix that would suit an older crowd. Luckily for Chris + Ron they magically stumbled across a DJ who is ALL about old school music. I have a very thorough understanding of music from the 60’s. This is from being a musician for years and growing up on a diet of Roy Orbison, Van Morrison, Simon & Garfunkel. One of my old dreams in life was to create a Patsy Cline tribute band. I thought we’d go around to all the RSLs in Melbourne and sing songs from the Patsy Cline’s Greatest Hits album. I’ve laid that one to rest now, as I’m pretty happy with my @celestialband_ Safe to say the faces on Table 3 lit up, when the first song of the night was Dean Martin’s ‘Volare’. I chased that up with lots of other little historical delights such as ‘Baby Please Dont Go’ Them, and more. 2 perfect weddings this weekend. 2 X 11 hour days. Last night we had the epic wedding of SALLY + RON, it was so good.. 🥰First up we played as an Acoustic Duo for their Ceremony, followed by a subtle Canapés solo. Next our 4 person Celestial Band played 3 live sets during their Receppy. We were loving our lives in the marquee with a generator. Team, I can’t even tell you about some of the tunes that we’re now bringing into our band sets. I can’t post about it on social media because we’ll get copy cats. 🐱 All I can say is that these new band tunes we’ve got are such a vibe, they have to remain a secret.. 🤫🎶 Anyways.. after all that, it was time to start the DJ sets. I played a whole heap of what I will call ‘I’m-25-and-listen-to-poppin-house-and-top-40-dance-music’... Think David Guetta, Kid Cudi and Calvin Harris.. there was also a healthy does of WAP in there. I’m not overly familiar with WAP, but it’s dirty so I like it..🐒 Towards the end of the night someone came up and asked me.. ‘Do you play Rack City TYGA?’ I was like.... Oh 👏🏽 my 👏🏽 god.. Do I play ‘Rack city’? I live to play stuff like that.. dying... dead. 😻🤤P.s. Slightly disappointed I didn’t end up playing ‘Land Down Under’ like I said in my Story. But I guess there’s always the next wedding true.. 🤷🏽‍♀️🧚🏼‍♀️ P.p.s. One 👏🏽 woman 👏🏽 band 👏🏽 last night for AMY + JUSTIN’s wedding! 😍This wedding was a total tear jerker from start to finish, here’s what happened... I DJ’d their Ceremony, followed by 2 X live solo sets (keyboard, singing and beats). Then I DJ’d their Receppy...Put it this way, I was tearing up just gathering their songs the night before the wedding... At the Ceremony, there was this surprise Grandma thing which totally pushed me over the edge emotionally... Nobody knew the Grandma was going to be there, and then she was there.. 👵🏾... 🥲 That was it, I was gone.. 😭 Holding my laptop and ugly crying with everyone else about the Grandma situation.. Anyhoo.. When I started singing during Canapés, our amazing Groom Justin, was looking at me full shocked. 😲 He didn’t know there was going to be live music at the wedding... He must have thought I was just a glorified laptop girl from the Ceremony.. That’s right Justin, I sing tunes too.. 😉🐒The dance-floor at this wedding kicked off with a bunch of R&B, followed by a curated selection of ‘guilty pleasure’ bangers for a mixed crowd.. There may or may not have been a few strip shows on the dance-floor. I won’t say who.. 🤫 It seems like I’m quite regularly faced with nudity on my dance floors now-a-days.. 🤷🏽‍♀️It’s a thing. Oh yea, I didn’t take a single song request all night. Coz I had no internet at all. That’s right, not even one cheeky patch of reception. Not even one sneaky Tinder notification got through. All good though, because I have all my tunes backed up on my lappy. I have many tunes... Last night our 6 piece Celestial Band celebrated the amazing nuptials of Chantal + Andrew. That’s right team.. from now on, I shall be describing everything as ‘nuptials’ rather then simply a wedding...😛The dress code for the night was Gatsby theme, and put it this way.. I don’t ever not, fully embrace a dress code... 👗 Our Acoustic Duo sung these lovers down the aisle to the song ‘(Everything I do) I do for you’ by Bryan Adams. Next we had our amazing Saxophone player Pete do a solo Canapés set 🎷.. Then our 6 Person live band let loose during the Receppy. If you’re a nice person planning your nuptials and you’re wondering what size band to go.. I would say if your having under 100 guests, a 4 piece classic wedding size will do. Over 100 guests, you might want to consider a 5 or 6 piece band. The more musicians you have in the band, the more dynamic and interesting the sound will be. 🎶 Due to the logistics of the venue, we had not only one, but TWO rocking dance floors happening. An indoor and an outdoor dancefloor. We have been working with Chantal + Andrew for about 2 years now. I was their female DJ/ MC and was #lovingittttt... 😍 This couple just gave me a few special songs to play at different times during their Reception, and left the rest of the music up to me.
